The Exeter Area Scholarship Fund Announces Scholarship Recipient

EXETER__Mia Crawford, a graduating senior at Great Bay Charter School, was awarded a $5,000 scholarship for post-secondary education from the Exeter Area Scholarship Fund.

Crawford, of Exeter, plans to attend North Eastern Institute of Whole Health this fall to become a massage therapist. She credited her teachers and support of the charter school with helping her get to this point.

“I’ve been able to grow more than I imagined and despite many obstacles during my high school career, I graduated,” Crawford said, adding she was incredibly thankful for the scholarship “I would like to thank my teachers for seeing something in me I couldn’t always see in myself and helping me achieve my goals that I thought were unachievable.”

Crawford’s scholarship includes support, advice and guidance from Nancy Phillips and Rob Burns, of the Exeter Area Scholarship Fund.

“We selected you because of the high regard your very special teachers have for your accomplishments, attitude, and hard work and because you are committing yourself to a field where you will be helping other people,” Nancy Phillips and Rob Burns, of the Exeter Area Scholarship Fund, said in presenting the award. “We believe that one of the most important decisions a young person can arrive at is to make the world a better place through their choice of career. Because of how you have conducted yourself during your time at Great Bay Charter School and because you have a dream that we would like to support, we are awarding you our highest level of scholarship.”

The Exeter Area Scholarship Fund is for students who need help because they have experienced difficulties in school or in their personal life that impact their ability to enroll in further education after high school. They are most interested in students who have specific plans and goals and who do not have sufficient resources and support to get there on their own. Students may attend an educational program, a community college, technical school or a two- or four-year college or university. The fund offers support and guidance along their way and may continue to offer scholarship funds to our recipients beyond their first year of secondary education if they qualify.
