Exeter-Area Schools Focusing on Suicide Prevention

Several students have died by suicide in recent years.

Local school officials are continuing to educate students and staff about suicide prevention following several student deaths in recent years.

"We're trying to be as supportive as we can to the people in our community," Superintendent Michael Morgan told the Exeter-area School Board Tuesday.

Last year, an Exeter High School sophomore died by suicide. In 2011, a freshman also died by suicide.

School Board Chairman Dave Miller has said suicide prevention efforts are one of the board's top priorities.

School officials and community leaders have held several forums offering education about suicide prevention. One forum earlier this month at the Cooperative Middle School in Stratham drew about 125 people, Morgan said.
