Exeter EEE Testing Continues After Positive Hit
Eastern Equine Encephalitis was recently found at Brickyard Park in Exeter.

Workers will continue to test for mosquitoes in Exeter after Eastern Equine Encephalitis was detected last month.
EEE, which can be deadly, was found in mosquitoes at Brickyard Park. Municipal Pest Management then sprayed the park. MPM, which has a contract with the town, also sprayed around the Exeter Recreation Complex and Park Street Park. Spraying creates a barrier that keeps mosquitoes out of such heavily used areas, town officials said.
Fire Chief Brian Comeau told the Board of Selectmen Monday workers will continue to test traps throughout town.
"We're doing all the right things," Comeau said.
Mosquitoes can transmit EEE to humans by biting them. Symptoms of EEE may include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, and sore throat. There is no treatment for the disease, which can lead to seizures and coma. Symptoms usually occur four to 10 days after being bitten.
EEE was also recently found in Greenland and Newington.
