Exeter Farmers Market Helps SST Students

Students used local food for a project.

The following is from the Seacoast Growers Association, which runs the Exeter Farmers Market every Thursday from 2:15 to 6 p.m. at .

Kelsey MacDonald and George Tilton are part of a team of students cooking a sold-out, five-course meal tonight as their final Senior project. We spotted them loading up with produce, herbs, syrup and other supplies at the Exeter Farmers' Market, along with their teacher and chef Jim Collins. All are from the Culinary Arts Program at Exeter's Seacoast School of Technology.

They planned to purchase from the farmers' market before going to their budgeted sources, to add as many locally produced ingredients to the meal as possible. Collins calls it a Local and Community Meal - local ingredients plus a social setting at long tables for community.

"We're really happy that we're down here today," Collins said on Thursday. "They decided it was so important to include the farmers' market that they've been pooling their tip money all year to buy local."

MacDonald and Tilton are Seniors, and have both been accepted into the Nutrition program at the University of New Hampshire in the fall.
