Exeter Friendly's Closes for Good

The has closed for good, according to a sign posted on the doors to the restaurant this week.

The nearest Friendly's location is now in Amesbury, the sign said.

The Wall Street Journal Friendly's has been hit by lingering effects of the recession, which has seen more people refrain from eating out to save money. The chain has also been affected by skyrocketing cost of supplies like butter and corn.

Friendly's recently launched a "High Five" menu of meals for $5 and promoted it with a television campaign. The Exeter location had recently promoted a "Classic Comfort" meal of grilled cheese and tomato soup on a sign outside the restaurant.
