Exeter Health Resources Named Most Wired for Sixth Year

EXETER, NH – For the sixth consecutive year, Exeter Health Resources has been named one of the nation’s “Most Wired” health care organizations for its use of information technology.

This year the local health care organization received the highest level of recognition given out to hospitals in the nationwide Most Wired ranking, according to the 2013 Most Wired Survey released in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.  Exeter Health Resources is one of only 200 organizations recognized across the country.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Health Care’s Most Wired Survey.  The survey focused on how the nation’s hospitals use technology for quality, customer service, public health and safety, business processes and workforce issues.  Hospitals were evaluated in the categories of infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.

“We are proud to once again be recognized by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine for the way we have used health information technology to help deliver better patient care in our organization,” said David Briden, Chief Information Officer for Exeter Health Resources. “Our health care providers are now used to looking at the electronic medical record first for information rather than relying on paper records.  Over the next few years patients will have greatly expanded secure access to their own medical records so they can conduct many routine healthcare transactions over the Internet at a time and place that is convenient to them.”

“This year’s Most Wired organizations exemplify progress through innovation,” said Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association. “The hospital field can learn from these outstanding organizations ways that IT can help to improve efficiency.”

A special focus for Exeter Health Resources in the past year has been in automating the flow of information from setting to setting when the patient is discharged or admitted.  Exeter Hospital is one of two pilot sites for the New Hampshire Health Information Organization, a secure health information exchange established by the State of New Hampshire.

“Exeter Health Resources has made a concerted effort to stay abreast of the most current information technology opportunities that will help our patients,” said Briden.  “We will continue to identify and implement new IT solutions that will help us improve patient care, quality and efficiency.”

Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted between January 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives.  Respondents completed 659 surveys, representing 1,713 hospitals, or roughly 30% of all U.S. hospitals.  The July 2013 Hospitals and Health Networks cover story detailing results is available at hhnmag.com.
