Exeter High Forum to Address Risk Behaviors

Drinking, depression, and drug use will be addressed.

tonight will host a community forum to discuss ways students can avoid risk behaviors like drinking and doing drugs.

The forum was organized after results came in from the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, which was taken by students across the country, including Exeter High students.

The survey found that at Exeter High:

  • 24 percent stopped an activity due to feelings of depression
  • 37 percent of juniors/seniors reported binge drinking in the last 30 days
  • 49 percent feel they don’t matter to their community
  • 73 percent think regular marijuana use doesn’t put them at risk

Tonight, a panel of experts including a pediatrician, substance abuse prevention expert, local family counselor, suicide prevention expert, and two students will share their input on these issues. The audience can then ask questions.
