Exeter Man Admits to $62K Social Security Fraud Scheme

Prosecutors said Robert Frese hid an inheritance from authorities.

An Exeter man admitted to defrauding the Social Security system out of about $62,000, the U.S. Attorney's office in New Hampshire said.

Robert Frese, 57, of Exeter, pleaded guilty in federal court to Social Security fraud.

U.S. Attorney John Kacavas said Frese hid a "substantial" inheritance he received from the estate of a dead family member—something that affected his enrollment in Social Security.

Kacavas said Frese fraudulently took $62,134 in benefits.

Social Security recipients are required to notify administration officials of events that could affect their eligibility.

Frese faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He's scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 5.
