Exeter Museum Toasts Washington B-Day

A party was held at the American Independence Museum.

The American Independence Museum over the weekend celebrated George Washington's 280th birthday.

The museum held a party Saturday that was attended by a few dozen people, according to the Union Leader. Newton resident George Moore, a frequent historical reenactor, dressed up as the nation's first president for the celebration.

Today's Presidents Day holiday was originally instituted to celebrate Washington's birthday, which is Feb. 22.

The museum every year hosts a festival that honors, among other things, Washington's stop in Exeter in 1789. Moore played Washington in last year's festival.
