Exeter Police Department Now Participating in Citizen Police Academy

EXETER, NH - Exeter Police Chief William Shupe is pleased to announce that the Exeter Police Department has partnered with the Portsmouth Police Department Citizen Police Academy (CPA) to offer classes to residents.

The CPA will run from April 19 to June 7, 2016, with a graduation ceremony at the conclusion of the last session. Classes are free and will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. This collaborative effort involves the police departments in Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, Newington, New Castle and Exeter, and is funded by Seacoast Crime Stoppers.

The goals of the CPA are:

• To bring citizens closer to their police departments.
• To bring a greater understanding of the role of police officers in the community.
• To provide a forum to address community concerns directly to the police department.
• To expand the participant's understanding of the laws and police procedures.
• To increase the public awareness of crime prevention techniques.

Those who wish to participate must be at least 18 years old and fill out an application, which can be found at the Portsmouth Police Department or online. The application deadline is March 31. Class size is limited, so residents are encouraged to get their applications in early. All course content is subject to change.

Preference will be given to residents and employees from the towns that Seacoast Crime Stoppers serve including the New Hampshire towns of Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, Newington, New Castle, Stratham, Exeter, Newfields, Newmarket, Durham, Kensington, and the Maine towns of Kittery, Eliot and York.
