Jason Dewire helped a woman found unconscious at her home.

An Exeter police officer has been credited with saving a woman's life.

Officer Jason Dewire was commended by his department after helping a woman who had an apparent heart attack.

The incident happened May 24. Dewire responded to a Hilton Avenue residence and found a 56-year-old woman who collapsed and was unresponsive.

Dewire, the first emergency responder on scene, started CPR and continued until more help arrived. The woman was hospitalized and about a week later was able to return home.

Police Chief Richard Kane said Dewire's actions "no doubt saved (the) women’s life."

Dewire was presented with a commendation.
