Exeter Schools Look to Improve Security

School officials recently met with local police chiefs.

Exeter school officials are looking to improve security in the wake of the .

The Exeter Elementary School Board on Tuesday discussed several options, including installing stronger glass on doors to prevent break-ins; installing security cameras at entrances; and having visitors buzzed in after passing through two sets of doors.

"The (measures) are all about slowing (a criminal) down," said Associate Superintendent Paul Flynn.

Flynn pointed out that doing things like adding stronger glass to doors would cost money.

"There are financial implications," he said.

Exeter-area school officials have had an ongoing discussion on security since the Newtown shootings in December, when a gunman killed 20 children and six adult staff members at an elementary school.

School Board members said they will continue to meet with police to go over ways to improve security.
