Exeter Unemployment Rate at 5.4 Percent

Exeter's unemployment rate is nearly identical to the state average.

In August, the town's unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, down from 6.4 percent in January.

The statewide average in August was 5.3 percent, according to the latest numbers from the state Department of Employment Security.

Exeter's figure translates into about 440 unemployed workers.

New Hampshire has about 700,720 workers in total. About 39,280 people are currently unemployed. The state has the lowest unemployment rate in New England.
