Firefighters arrived shortly before 9 a.m. to find the furnance and bunch of rags and debris on fire in the basement. They doused the flames with their portable extinguishers.
The family is going to be able to return to the home today, Berkenbush said, though they are without heat as the furnace was a total loss.
