American Academy of Pediatrics Partners With Kittery Fire Association To Keep Our Community Safe From Fire Dangers
Portsmouth, NH, September, 4, 2013 -- The Kittery Fire Association has partnered with the American Academy of Pediatrics to hold a free fire safety education class on Saturday, September 28, from 11:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Kittery Fire Station at 3 Gorges Road in Kittery, Maine.
The free class is open to all Seacoast residents and will focus on two simple themes: first, have a working smoke and carbon monoxide alarm in your home, and second, have a fire escape plan and practice it.Fire can spread quickly throughout a home, leaving residents as little as two minutes to escape safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Making a fire escape plan and practicing a fire escape drill are important elements of home fire safety, yet many families do not take these simple steps to protect their loved ones from danger. “Fire poses a serious risk to children and families in our community,” said Dan Hale, pediatrician and Kittery Fire Department volunteer. “By attending this fire education event, you can take an active role in keeping our community safe and protected.”
The free safety education event includes a complimentary barbeque sponsored by MoJo’s, free childcare and an on-site fire safety trailer demonstrating the dangers of smoke and fire. On the day of the education course, residents can also arrange for a free inspection and battery replacement of their current alarms, or installation of new alarms, if needed. For more information about the event, or to register online, please visit: www.kitteryfiresafety.org
This event is funded by an American Academy of Pediatrics Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Grant. CATCH grants are awarded to pediatricians in effort to increase needed health services for children and create a medical home. The American Academy of Pediatrics' mission is to attain optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents and young adults.
