This free outdoor session will give you practical knowledge and skills around soil testing and amendments, as well as grass cultivation best-practices. This is your chance to get off the 4-step lawncare treadmill and create an organic, polyculture lawn that will eventually require way less work from you! You will feel much better knowing your kids and pets are playing on a chemical-free lawn.
This workshop is the second event in a two-part series hosted by Exeter's “Healthy Lawns - Clean Water” initiative, and features workshop stations staffed by; Margaret Hagen of WMUR’s “Grow it Green”, experts from UNH’s Cooperative Extension (the soil-test folks), and the traveling NH DOT stormwater runoff exhibit. So this Saturday morning, grab a cup of coffee from a downtown cafe, then walk over to the Swasey Pavilion and take advantage of the expertise at this free workshop. Bring your neighbors too!
The citizens of Exeter are looking into the organic lawn movement. Last week over 50 people attended a free lawncare lecture at Exeter High School featuring three national experts, and local vendors Arjay's Ace, Dodge's Agway, and Churchill's Nursery (all sell organic products). The ultimate aim of Exeter's initiative is to curb the overuse of nitrogen fertilizers and harsh pesticides on our lawns and parks, which can flow into the wetlands, acquifers, and eventually to the river. Great Bay is currently under great stress! See photos of the evening and learn more about Exeter's initiative and new fertilizer ordinances here: www.ExeterHealthyLawnsCleanWater.com
