I want to thank you for electing me to serve as your state Senator from District 23. As a newly elected Senator and member of the Senate Judiciary, Executive Departments & Administration, and Transportation Committees, I was able to work with my colleagues on numerous bills and to be an active voice for you in Concord. One of our greatest accomplishments to-date was passing a fiscally conservative state budget that both supports the citizens of our state who are in need of assistance while being fiscally responsible and planning for our future.
In this budget, we demonstrate our commitment to addressing the heroin and opioid epidemic by doubling the funding to prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. The budget also takes immediate action to expand mental health treatment and funding to the developmentally disabled community, while overhauling the organization at the Division of Children Youth and Families to better protect our children from harm.

This budget also lives within its means, keeping annual spending low, and by growing the rainy day fund to $100 million, improving our bond rating to give us the opportunity to respond to future economic changes. We illustrate that New Hampshire is open for business by lowering business tax rates and eliminating the energy consumption tax, allowing companies to expand, invest, and create more jobs. Our efforts to strengthen our workforce led to a scholarship program for students who continue to work in our state following graduation from our colleges and universities.
I am proud to have worked with my colleagues on this budget and more this past session and I look forward to continuing our good work in the next year.
