Getaway Driver in Exeter Bank Heist Faces 75 Years in Prison

Marvin Ansteth faces up to 75 years in prison.

A man who authorities said was the getaway driver in an Exeter bank robbery last year has pleaded guilty.

Marvin Eugene Ansteth, Jr.  40, of Somersworth pleaded guilty to armed robbery in U.S. District Court in Portland, Maine.

Police said on Oct. 7, Philip Gage, also of Somersworth, passed a note teller demanding money to a teller at the People's United Bank on Main Street in Exeter. Gage fled with $1,451 and hopped in a vehicle driven by Ansteth.

The pair also pulled over several more bank heists in southern Maine, authorities said. Gage remained in custody as his case progresses.

"These armed bank robberies were quickly solved because local, state, county and federal law enforcement agencies across two states worked closely together," said U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty of Maine in a statement.
