Hammersmith Sandwich Celebrating B-Day

Exeter's Hammersmith Sandwich Company is celebrating its second year in town.

"The majority of restaurants fail in the first two years, so this is a huge milestone for us," said Karen Rafferty, who owns the business with her husband, Shawn. "We took an idea and have managed to survive based on our hard work and creativity."

The shop, located downtown, sells a variety of sandwiches, subs, soups, and salads, among other items.

There will be a special discount Monday for their two-year anniversary. Four of their best-selling sandwiches will be $4.99 instead of the usual $6.99 to $7.29. The sandwiches include:

• The Homestyle Turkey (Sliced Turkey, Swiss Cheese, Caramelized Onions, Mushrooms and Mayo, toasted)
• The Exeter (Roast Beef, Cheddar Cheese, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Tomatoes and Horseradish Sauce, grilled)
• The Chicken Cordon Bleu (Chicken Breast Strips, Ham, Smoked Gouda Cheese, Swiss Cheese and Herbed Mayo, toasted)
• The California Club Wrap (Sliced Turkey, Bacon, Swiss Cheese, Lettuce, Tomatoes and Guacamole on a wrap)

Rafferty said they are considering moving to a larger location in Exeter later this year.

"We couldn't be happier, and hope to keep the all rolling this year and really thrive," she said.
