Heavily Armed 'Suicidal Subject' Stopped by State Police in Chester

Man armed with assault rifle, Glock, and other guns transferred to Exeter Hospital for observation yesterday.

On Dec. 13, at approximately 2349 hours, Troopers from the NH State Police, Troop-A received a report of a 911 hang-up call coming from a Laurel Hill Road residence in Chester.

Troopers responded to the area and a short time later, information was relayed through Rockingham County Dispatch that a male subject at that residence had contacted a family member and made reference to suicidal threats. Troopers learned through the relative that there were weapons inside the residence, and a possible vehicle description was given as well. Troopers responding to the area staged in the area of Lane Road, and a short time later the subject was seen driving on Laurel Hill Road.

Trooper Forbes of Troop-A subsequently stopped the vehicle as it pulled into a driveway on Lane Road. The 33-year-old male subject was taken into custody without incident.

Troopers located several firearms in plain view, on the front seat of the man’s vehicle, to include a SAIGA 7.62 semi-automatic assault rifle with five large capacity magazines, a Stag Arms .223 assault rifle with three 30 round magazines, a loaded Glock 21, .45 caliber pistol, and a loaded Springfield XD .9mm pistol with hundreds of rounds of various rifle and pistol ammunition.

The man was transported to Exeter Hospital, where he was released to the custody of hospital personnel for a mental health evaluation.

Assisting with this incident were officers from the Chester Police Department and the Fremont Police Department.
