Hunger Does Not Take a Summer Vacation

Donations needed to support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Exeter Food Pantry summer food program.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is as busy as ever this summer as families with school age children are able to visit the Food Pantry on a weekly basis. Clients can come once a week, as opposed to once a month during the rest of the year, to make up for the loss of free or reduced price school lunches. The amount of food distributed greatly increases during the summer months, yet donations are very low.

The majority of food drives and donations occur around Thanksgiving and Christmas time, but few know that the need is greatest during the summer. While most food items can be stored until the summer, the amount of food on hand diminishes by this time, especially due to the increase in family visits , and the Food Pantry runs out of many items.

Items in need include: Cereal, Macaroni and Cheese, Canned Vegetables, Juice Boxes, Canned Fruit and Applesauce, Snacks, Condiments, and Toilet Paper.
