June Happenings at Newmarket Public Library

Do you

love nature and want to learn more about trees? Kevin Martin, author of “Big

Trees of New Hampshire” will stop by Newmarket Public Library on June 7 at 1:30 p.m. to
discuss history, management and caretaking of the big trees in the Granite State.

The library is also offering an online book club,
The Big Library Read. This is a worldwide digital version of a local book club.
The first book, “A Pedigree to Die For,” by Laurien Berenson, will be available
June 3 – 18 with no holds and no waitlists. If you haven’t downloaded an
e-reader yet, check out books/eBooks/audiobooks tab at www.newmarketlibrary.org and use your card to check out a book.


If you’re looking to find out your family history, the library now offers access to Ancestry.com. The genealogical database provides information on census reports, vital records, immigration and military records. It can only be accessed from the library.

High
school students: Worried about taking the ACT, SAT or
PSATs? Practice makes perfect....The library will be offering a new program
called Testing, Education and Resource Center (TERC). TERC features
full-length, timed practice exams that simulate the actual testing experience.
TERC is not just for high school students. It is for all types of students -
graduate, specialty school and beyond.  Using the program is simple. It can be accessed in the library and from home using your Newmarket Library card.
Inquire at the library when the service will be available.



  If you’d like some help learning new
technologies, one on one tutoring is available for computers or E-readers. Just
call or come in to make an appointment.

Looking for an economical day out with the family? The library has four museum passes – the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester http://www.currier.org/ and Seacoast Science Center in Rye http://www.seacoastsciencecenter.org/, Children’s Museum in Dover http://www.childrens-museum.org/cmnh2010/ and See Science Center in Manchester http://www.see-sciencecenter.org/

The
summer reading program will kick off on July 7 at 6
p.m. with a Magic of Science show.

If you
would like to get involved in something and love the library, think about
joining the Friends of the Newmarket Public Library. The next meeting will
be June 5 at 7 p.m.

Love talking about books? Check out the Books and Coffee Discussion Group. This month’s book is “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See. The group will meet on June 20 at 10:30 a.m.
