Learn About the History of Beer in NH
The American Independence Museum will host a free event at Folsom Tavern.
The following was submitted by the American Independence Museum:
Calling all beer fans! Glenn Knoblock will be presenting a free lecture at historic Folsom Tavern on October 17, entitled “Brewing in NH: An Informal History of Beer in the Granite State from Colonial Times to the Present." The event will begin at 7 p.m. and is free of charge because of the NH Humanities Council’s “Humanities To Go” program.
Mr. Knoblock will explore the fascinating history of New Hampshire’s beer and ale brewing industry from Colonial days, when it was home-and tavern-based, to today’s modern breweries and brew pubs. Unusual and rare photos and advertisements document this changing industry and the state’s earliest brewers, including the renowned Frank Jones. A number of lesser known brewers and breweries that operated in the state are also discussed, including the only brewery owned and operated by a woman before the modern era. Illustrations present evidence of society’s changing attitudes towards beer and alcohol consumption over the years. Whether you’re a beer connoisseur or a “tea-totaler”, this lecture will be enjoyed by adults of all ages.
“The American Independence Museum’s Folsom Tavern is an ideal spot for the presentation,” said Julie Tiebout, the museum’s Marketing and Development Director. “This past year we hosted events which featured our partnership with Redhook Brewery’s special brew, American Independence Ale, and on Saturday, October 20th, Exeter is having its first Powderkeg Beer and Chilifest at Swasey Parkway! We do love our brew in Exeter!”
