Results are in; we have a new local favorite! This first printing of "Incident at Exeter Tavern" was sold out in a jiffy at Water Street Bookstore. The second shipment arrived this week and we sent some to the bookstore, and some to St. Anthony's Bakery. Both local shops are semi-open in the new "social distance" way. They would be happy for your business.
What is this buzz all about anyway? "Incident at Exeter Tavern" is a mystery set in some of your favorite hang-out spots in Exeter. You will recognize scenes set in St. Anthony's Bakery, Water Street Bookstore, Up Front Art Gallery, and more. When reading the book, you may be transported - just for a few minutes - back to a "normal" time in town when the shops and galleries were bustling with your (un-masked) friends.
The plot: Follow along with artist Maryvonne for a weekend in this historical-fiction mystery, set on the day the Declaration of Independence arrives in Exeter, both present day and on the real day back in 1776. Learn some history of Exeter, some of the old names, and actually... you may recognize a few of the current names!

"Incident at Exeter Tavern" is the first of a historical-fiction trilogy. (A big thank you to Barbara and her team at the Exeter Historical Society for their assistance.) Now, since trapped at home, the second book in this Maryvonne Mini-Mysteries series is already underway. We set this one over by the Ioka, and it will include bits about abolitionist-era Exeter. Perhaps it could be ready by the early fall? All profits will go towards a future commemoration of the historic black community of "Olde-Exeter."
