Local Shipyard Workers Carry On After 'Senseless' Violence

Officials sent their thoughts and prayers to the victims of Monday's Washington Navy Yard shooting.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers carried on with heavy hearts Tuesday in the wake of a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.

Gov. Maggie Hassan Tuesday morning met with Portsmouth Naval Shipyard officials and discussed the tragedy.

"Our thoughts and prayers (are) with all of the families of people who were killed yesterday," Hassan said.

She said there are some shipyard workers who know people who work at the Washington Navy Yard.

"People are concerned but they are going about their work," she said. "The (Portsmouth Naval Shipyard) is being as vigilant as it can be but (workers) are also very focused on the work at hand."
