This Memorial Day, remember some patriots from Exeter, the Revolutionary Capital of NH, who helped in the battle to found this country. In these slower and more local times, visit a local hidden gem: The Winter Street Cemetery. Here lies in Exeter, right next to the “purple dinosaur” playground, men and women who lived during those dramatic days.
Spend a moment or two reading the gravestones of some of the men and women who lived and strived in the 1700’s. Never mind a trip to the Freedom Trail in Boston - stay local right now to educate your children!
Of special note are the stones of Jude Hall and Tobias Cutler, two black soldiers, near the Railroad Ave side of this old burying yard. You can read about Jude Hall on Wikipedia, or in the newly launched historical-fiction book “Incident at Exeter Tavern” by RM Allen, available online at Amazon or at Water Street Bookstore curbside pick-up.
