Mirsky: Progressives Need Hillary Clinton

The job of the next President of the United States will be a tough one. That is guaranteed. There are forces out there attempting as I write this, to eliminate the right of all women to reproductive freedom.

The news media and the newly empowered forces of social media are being used for negative purposes, to destroy the rights and improved standing of minority persons in this country, and those with the most financial wealth have been empowered by mistakes in our legal system to seek control of our electoral process by flooding television and the Internet with an endless stream of negativity and hate.

The negativity and hate is in response to the successes of President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party in seeking to create a truly Progressive Era in American Society.

We have now enjoyed several years of a Presidential Administration led by a powerful and brilliant member of the minority community of America. We have prospered under the leadership of President Barack Obama. We are entering a period of dramatic economic growth. We are challenging the world to choose peace over the prospect of endless war.

We now have a United States Supreme Court ruling that says all people are entitled to freedom and dignity. We have achieved the right to gay marriage. But the Supreme Court’s ruling means even more than that: It means that we are all entitled to freedom and dignity regardless of our particular inherent personal characteristics.

In the face of these great changes, the forces against Progressivity have grown restless and are now seeking to burst out and take back the control that they have lost. There are strong forces out there seeking to destroy what has been gained. These people are smart, they have money, and they do not play by the rules.

The forces of freedom, equality, and greater opportunity for all, need someone who knows how to handle this type of situation. We need someone who is tough and smart and ready for a fight.

As people of good will in New Hampshire, as New Hampshire voters, we have the power to protect and promote a progressive future in America.
We need a leader who can handle the fights that need to be fought to protect a greater future for America’s children.

We need Hillary Clinton.
