Newmarket Business Association, Town and local resident Donate Bike Racks throughout Downtown

Newmarket, NH – The redevelopment of Newmarket's thriving downtown area has generated positive and enthusiastic responses from residents, business owners and even many other Seacoast residents who simply pass through town as they drive to work or run errands. However, it's become apparent that more of these folks are stopping in Newmarket, whether to patronize old businesses, investigate new ones or simply see how much things have changed. With this influx of visitors, there has been an inevitable pressure on the existing parking facilities.

One solution is to reduce the number of cars in the downtown area, and this can be achieved by either the use of public transportation, or when folks walk or ride their bikes. To this end, the Newmarket Business Association has contributed nearly $600 to purchase 3 bicycle racks. Building Safety Officer Mike Hoffman explained that the funds committed were more than needed for three, so the Town was able to contribute the differential to acquire a fourth bike rack.

But it doesn't stop there. Hoffman adds, "When our contracted Finance Director, Matt Angell, heard of this initiative, he asked if we could use another bike rack.  Of course, we said ‘absolutely’.  Angell & Company, LLC contributed the funds to bring us to the five bike racks ordered."

In the very near future, Mr Hoffman will join Town Administrator Steve Fournier and Public Works Director Rick Malasky in conducting a site walk to determine the location of each bike rack, considering where they will produce the greatest benefit while avoiding interferences with snow removal or other access issues. Input for placement is welcomed and may be directed to the Building Safety Officer. Contributions for additional racks are also welcome!
