​NH SPCA Assists State Police in Rescuing Animals

STRATHAM, NH — On Jan. 10, 2017, the Field Services Division of the New Hampshire SPCA assisted the New Hampshire State Police department acting on a search warrant in Rumney, following a complaint of animal cruelty, according to a press release. The warrant resulted in the seizure of 36 farm animals.

The animals consist of seven goats, three sheep, including a lamb, five ducks, 14 chickens, a guinea hen, two pot-bellied pigs, two turkeys, and two geese. All are waiting to be evaluated by a veterinarian, but many appear to be suffering from various health conditions.

The animals were surrendered at the scene. There is an ongoing investigation.

“We were proud to assist the New Hampshire State Police with their rescue on Tuesday. The 36 animals that were brought in are now safe. They are being cared for and will be evaluated by a farm animal veterinarian as soon as possible,” said Lisa Dennison, Executive Director of the New Hampshire SPCA. “As always, we are grateful that we were able to help. Rumney is nearly two hours from our shelter, but when the NHSPCA is called upon to assist animals in need, we are always ready to help.”

The road to recovery for this group is yet to be determined. First will be veterinary evaluation, treatment as needed, weight gain and healing for some, everything will vary depending on their needs. Their care will be costly, as it always is when the condition of an animal has been allowed to deteriorate. “We are part of a wonderfully caring community, for which we are truly grateful,” said Dennison. “We hope that they will support the recuperation of these animals, as they have always done in previous cases.”
