Opening Day a Huge Success

Opening Day at the American Independence Museum was a huge success this past Saturday, as more than 100 people, many of the families, visited the property to enjoy themselves on a beautiful spring day.

A true highlight was when Jim Hayden gave a rousing demonstration of musket firing, which attracted many families from Water Street to come up to our campus and enjoy. Most of our attendees noted gleefully, "I have been a resident of Exeter for (insert number) of years now, and I have driven by and always wanted to come in.  I am so glad to have had the chance to see it!"

We had new members join, a very enthusiastic sign up for our Colonial Living History Camp this July, and many, many $20 bills in our donation boxes. We are overjoyed at the response, which was more than double from last year. Driving away from the day, Executive Director Julie Williams saw a family of four walking up Water Street holding their corn husk dolls and thought t herself, "Yes, we did a good job today."

We could not have done a good job, however, without the best volunteers in the world to help things runs smoothly. We thank them and all those who visited us at Opening Day. To learn more about the Museum, or to become a member, please visit www.independencemuseum.org. We have a hands-on exhibit for kids and plenty happening throughout these next few months, so consider visiting us and see what the fuss is all about!
