"Paine Wingate" Program, Monday, May 9th, 7:00 p.m.

MONDAY, MAY 9th, 2022, the Stratham Historical Society and The Wiggin Memorial Library will jointly host "Paine Wingate", a presentation by his third great-grandson, John Wingate Seavey. Mr. Seavey was born in Exeter, raised in Hampton, and educated at Bates College, the University of Arizona, and Harvard. He spent over three decades at the University of New Hampshire as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. He was the Founding Director of the UNH graduate program in Public Health. Following his 2012 retirement as Professor Emeritus, Mr. Seavey channeled his research abilities and his passion to family history.

Paine Wingate moved to Stratham in 1776 from his role as Pastor at the Congregational Church in Hampton Falls. He was elected to several terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. Mr. Wingate was appointed to the very first United States Senate in 1789 and elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1793. Mr. Seavey's program aims to share greater knowledge of Paine Wingate, his family, a few laughs and perhaps a few of his artifacts.
