Popular Exeter High Teacher Dies

Jonathan Fischer battled stomach cancer.

Jonathan Fischer, a popular Exeter High School teacher who students railled around after he was diagnosed with cancer, died Saturday. He was 53 years old.

Fischer, of Barrington, leaves behind his wife, Ellen, according to his obituary.

Fischer, a Spanish teacher at Exeter High, battled stomach cancer for six months. Exeter students railled behind him, holding several to help pay for his care.

"Jonathan was extraordinary for the many people he inspired and the lives he touched," his obituary reads. "His greatest gift was his ability to make people feel special by recognizing and celebrating their uniqueness."

A celebration of his life will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Exeter High School.
