September Happenings - Newmarket Public Library

 After 30 years of dedication to the town, Newmarket Public
Library
director Sharon Kidney will be retiring. Please stop by for an
informal farewell reception on Friday, September 13 at the library between 2
and 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served.



It’s back to school, so back to the books. The preschool
story hour is back. Starting September 17 at 10:30, preschoolers (and younger kids) are invited to stop by for
a story and craft.



If you would like to get involved in something and love the
library, think about joining the Friends of the Newmarket Public
Library
. The next meeting will be September 5 at 7 p.m.

Discussion Group
might be for you. This month’s book is “Snow Crash”
by Neil Stephenson. The group will meet on September 20
at 10:45 a.m.



And of course, the free movies continue. Check out the

Upcoming showings include: an animated feature of a teenage girl transported to
a forest in the midst of a battle of good versus evil (rated PG, 102
minutes, September 6 at 6:30 p.m.); a drama of the strike at the Ford Dagenham
car plant in 1968, with female workers walking out in protest of sexual
discrimination (rated R, 113 minutes, September 13 at 6:30 p.m.); a drama about
the days leading up to July 4, 1776 and Thomas Jefferson penning the
Declaration of Independence (rated PG, 142 minutes, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m.); Tobey
Maguire stars as a Midwestern war veteran drawn to the millionaire lifestyle of
his neighbor (rated PG13, 143 minutes, September 27 at
6:30 p.m.).

Starting September 7, the library will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on
Saturdays.



     Does your elementary-student need a boost
with reading skills? Stop by to sign up for Seacoast Reads. UNH
volunteers work one-on-one with an elementary “reading
buddy”, reading books, playing word games, and practicing writing.
 Your child will be paired with a student tutor and they will meet once a
