Spring Workshops at Stout Oak Farm

Go Green! Learn about Organic Lawn Care and Compost Tea

Join us for a series of organic land care workshops, led by Stout Oak crew member Javi Gil. Javi is an expert in organic landscaping and lawn care, having managed an organic landscaping company for the past 11 years. He is a NOFA Certified Land Care professional, and regularly teaches workshops on a range of organic gardening and landscaping topics.

Friday April 10, 6:00 - 7:30 Practical skills and problem solving will be the focus of the 1.5 hour workshop on organic lawn care. It will begin with an overview of the systems approach to organic landscaping, soil testing and soil amendments, managing nutrition, grass types, and compost tea, and then delve into solutions for real-life landscape problems.

Introduction to Compost Tea

Friday May 8, 6:00 - 7:30 Learn the fundamentals of compost, soil microbiology, and why compost tea is the hottest new trend in gardening. Compost tea is used to promote beneficial bacteria, add nutrients to the soil, suppress disease and fungi, and increase overall health in plants. Javi will demonstrate how to make your own compost tea at home with a few simple supplies.
