Ted King, of Brentwood, in Tour de France Controversy

After being disqualified, King got support from several riders, including Lance Armstrong.

A man from Brentwood competed in the Tour de France this week.

It was the first time Ted King, 30, rode in the cycling event. He separated his shoulder in a crash on the first day of the race and was disqualified on Tuesday after he failed to make the cut.

The race officials' decision generated somewhat of a controversy because King only missed the qualifying time by 7 seconds. Several riders lobbied to get King back in the race, with some using a #LetTedRide hashtag on social media.

Famed cyclist Lance Armstrong also backed King.

King rode with the Italy-based Cannondale team.
