Unitil Going Through Correct Process to Repay Seniors, Spokesman Says

Spokesman Alec O'Meara said the company intends to repay in full seniors at RiverWoods for overages.

A Unitil spokesman said the company is going through the correct regulatory process to repay more than $1 million in electricity overcharges to seniors at the RiverWoods housing complex.

RiverWoods this week Unitil, saying the utility has only repaid about a third of the $2 million in electricity overcharges, which started in 2004.

Unitil spokesman Alec O'Meara said the company intends to repay the rest of the amount but must first go through the correct regulatory process with the state Public Utilities Commission by asking for advice on how to resolve the issue.

"We want to make sure we're ot running afoul of (state law)," O'Meara said. "We're following the normal regulations to make sure this issue is resolved in the best interest of our customers."
