Unitil, RiverWoods Settle $1M Dispute

After an overcharge, senior citizens will be repaid -- with interest.

A million-dollar between Unitil and the RiverWoods senior community has been resolved.

The dispute stemmed from Unitil overcharging senior citizens there about $2 million for electricity. The company blamed it on a faulty meter. Unitil had repaid about a third of the money when RiverWoods filed a lawsuit arguing the company was dragging its feet in paying the rest.

President Justine Vogel said this week Unitil recently paid the remaining balance -- plus interest -- to the seniors.

Unitil that it was dragging its feet, saying it had to go through a state commission first because the repayment would result in small rate hikes for other customers.
