Unitil Warns of 'Green Dot' Scam

The following is a news release:

Unitil has been advised some customers in the New Hampshire Seacoast region may have been contacted via phone as part of a known national scam commonly referred to as the “Green Dot” scam. On the call, the scammer demands the customer make a cash payment via a “Green Dot” pre-paid card in an hour or less or face immediate disconnection.

Unitil will at times reach out to customers by phone if there is a payment issue or to offer payment options, but never demands the use of a pre-paid card to make payment over the phone. Payments can always be made with a variety of options, including check, credit card or debit card and can also be made on the company’s Website, Unitil.com.  Customers who receive unusually specific demands should not make a payment and are urged to contact Unitil Customer Service directly to verify account status.
