Vehicles Crash Into Moose On Route 101

NHSP: Two sedans, a pickup truck, and a tractor-trailer truck were involved in a crash in Auburn. Two drivers were sent to the hospital.

AUBURN, NH — Four vehicles sustained damage this morning after being involved in a crash that started when one vehicle crashed into a moose on Route 101 in Auburn this morning, according to the New Hampshire State Police. At just before 1 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2017, state troopers from Troop A were sent to a report of a multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound side of the highway. According to an investigation by state police, a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle, being driven by a Candia woman, struck the moose first while traveling east. Her vehicle was then sent into the median.

“After the moose was struck, the animal went down and remained in the left travel lane,” Hennessey stated.

An Exeter man driving a pickup truck behind the Beetle then struck the moose. He sustained no injuries and pulled over to the side of the road, according to the report.

Another driver from Manchester in a Honda Civic came upon the crash scene and attempted to miss the moose but then crashed into the pickup truck and then a guardrail. The driver was also taken to Elliot Hospital with minor injuries.

A fourth driver from Antrim in a tractor-trailer truck then struck the moose but sustained no injuries.

“Route 101 eastbound was closed for approximately one hour as troopers investigated the accident and for removal of the four vehicles involved in the collision, along with the animal,” Hennessey stated.

Assisting the New Hampshire State Police at the scene were the Auburn Police Department, Candia Police Department, Auburn Fire Department, Candia Fire Department and NH DOT.
