Vernon Family Farm Hosts Grilling & Growing Memorial Day Weekend

NEWFIELDS__Vernon Family Farm is stocked for Memorial Day weekend with local meat options for holiday grilling as well as locally grown non-GMO seedlings for your home gardens.

“Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to plant your garden and also grill and barbecue with your family,” said Nicole Vernon, who owns the farm with her husband Jeremiah. “New Hampshire’s farm raised meat supply chains are continuing to produce incredible local meat options for people and we are stocked with a variety of meat from area farmers here in our farm store.”

Vernon Family Farm has all cuts of chicken as well as pork sausages from Short Creek Farm, bison from Hackmatack Farm, Waygu beef from Arkhive Farm, grass fed beef from Little Brook Farm, lamb from Heart Stone Farm and elk and venison from Yankee Farmer's Market. On Saturdays, the farm also has fresh lobster and other seafood from Rye Harbor through a new partnership with Newfields native Lucas Raymond.

The farm is also hosting the second weekend of their Seedling Sale in partnership with Hollister Family Farm. They will have tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, peppers and more, including a variety of heirloom seedlings. All seedlings are non-GMO and grown without spray.

“Our first weekend was extremely well attended, so much so that we actually sold out,” Vernon said. “Don’t stress out if you can’t get a variety online that you are hoping for as farmer Stephanie Hollister is bringing more. Picking up at the farm also gives you the opportunity to ask the farmer about the seedlings, about farming and about growing your own food.”

Those who plan to buy seedlings should bring a carrying tray, flat or box to carry the potted seedlings home.

Vernon Family Farm will continue to follow CDC guidelines as they relate to COVID-19. They have a mandatory hand wash station and seedlings will be outside farmer's market style.

“We would like to remind customers to be thoughtful about keeping a six-foot distance from other customers as you shop,” Vernon said. “We will all be wearing courtesy masks and we encourage you to wear them as well. The farm store is open as normal with a maximum of three customers at one time in our indoor space.”
