VIDEO: Local Farmers Helping Local Farmers

Vermont farmer Pete Johnson spoke in Exeter Monday.

In Feb. 2011, a barn on Pete Johnson's Vermont farm burned down.

He received an outpouring of support from the community. People donated thousands of dollars so he could back on his feet.

Now, he's paying it forward. Johnson, who runs Pete's Greens Farm in Craftsbury, Vt., started the non-profit Vermont Farm Fund to support other farms going through tough times.

Johnson spoke about the fund in Exeter Monday night at  Food and Health Forum.

It was the third forum in the series. The first Stonyfield Yogurt chief Gary Hirshberg; the second Jim Gerritsen, a Maine farmer fighting the growth of genetically modified crops. All the forums sold out.
