We the People Talks 'New Ways of Getting Old'
Free event in Exeter features Riverwoods Vice President Cathleen Toomey.

EXETER, NH — We the People of Exeter will host a free talk by Riverwoods Vice President Cathleen Toomey at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at the First Unitarian Universalist Society, 12 Elm St. in Exeter. As a country, we are in the midst of a population explosion of 65 plus Americans – the largest demographic shift of retirees we have ever experienced. Not only are their numbers increasing, but they are also living longer – with totally different expectations of what aging looks like. Witness the increase in seniors running marathons and triathlons – there are few rocking chairs in their futures. So, what is new about getting old? How will the sociodemographic impacts of baby boomers’ outlooks affect the choices you make with your parents, as well as how you plan for yourself?
Cathleen Toomey, VP of Marketing for RiverWoods, a nationally-accredited continuing care retirement community in Exeter NH, will share her insights on the front lines of the retirement industry, and will cover demographic trends, retiree concerns, housing options and other considerations as we look clear eyed into the changing face of our community and country.
“When Rockers Hit the Rocking Chair - New Ways of Getting Old” is presented by We the People, a free lecture and film series exploring issues at the intersection of current events, ethics and religion. We the People is co-sponsored by the Congregational, Episcopal, and Unitarian Universalist churches of Exeter, in association with Phillips Exeter Academy and Water Street Bookstore. The event will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Society which is handicapped-accessible.
