11 Year Old Strikes Luck on 11/11/11

Friday was all about one number for Slade Laszewski, although he said he wouldn't be in the gutters if others found their way into the frame.

The fifth turned 11 years old today, which happens to be 11/11/11 — something that wasn't lost on the Hampton boy.

Laszewski was surrounded by friends at Bowl-O-Rama in Portsmouth to celebrate his birthday, which included 11 balloons, a phone call from his aunt at 11:11 a.m. and attempts to bowl a "111" in every game.

"It's really fun to have your birthday on this day," he said. "It never really happens a lot. It's unique."

Laszewski said he is "good bowler," and even though his first ball found its way into the gutter, he said he he was still focused on bowling a "111" as well as winning arcade tickets in intervals of 11.

"I'm not the best bowler, but I think I can make it," he said.

Laszewski said he had been waiting all year for the once-in-a-millenia day, and had hoped to celebrate by appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres Show because it looks "fun."

Things didn't turn out that way, but he said his mother, Dana, still did a great job making his party enjoyable.

Laszewksi said he planned to savor the special nature of the day for a little longer, as well as hopefully use its "luck" to have a great year and to improve his already-sterling 5K running times.
