INTRO TO COMPUTERS

Would you like to become more computer literate? In this beginner’s Introduction to the Fundamentals of Computer Use, the emphasis will be hands-on and non-threatening.  

Practical, helpful exercises and illustrations, as well as explanations and tips by the instructor, will make you comfortable with computer basics. The aim is to motivate you to utilize this essential of modern-day life readily and with confidence.

It is assumed there will be participants with varying degrees of computer experience; therefore, people will be encouraged to proceed at their own pace, individually or in pairs.  The objective is that all leave with an improved overview of the subject matter, meaningful experiences, and greater motivation to use the computer.

Course dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays — Oct. 18, 20, 25 and 27.

INTRO TO MICROSOFT WORD

This course will allow you to become more familiar with Microsoft Word. You will explore basics such as utilizing cut and paste, setting margins, spell and grammar check, and utilizing the thesaurus.  

We will progress through more advanced applications such as tables and formatting.  You will learn how to set up documents, letters, and resumes.

BEGINNING GUITAR

Learn folk, pop and rock tunes on the acoustic guitar! Participants will learn the basics of playing guitar, including strumming chords, playing melody using standard notation, and reading tabs.  

Guitars are provided. Beginners only please. Class size: 15, unless participants provide their own acoustic guitar.

HISTORY OF AMERICAN POP MUSIC
Learn about the progression of American popular music, starting with turn-of-the-century jazz, tracing its development into rock in the 1950s and 1960s, and resulting in modern pop.  

Discuss the development of folk, rock, acid rock, soul music, funk, punk, disco, hip-hop, and rap. It’s a great chance to hear music familiar and new, and gain insight into some of your favorite performers, such as Elvis, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
