After Hampton Child’s Death, Step-Father Arrested on Drug, Evidence Charges
Hampton Police also charged Leo Witham with endangering the welfare of a child.

HAMPTON, NH — A local man was arrested today and held on cash bail after the investigation of a child’s death led to various charges against the man, according to police. Leo Witham, 30, of Hampton, was arrested on Oct. 7, 2016, and charged with endangering the welfare of a child for purposely violating a duty to care, possession of a controlled drug, and falsifying physical evidence.

According to Deputy Chief David Hobbs, police began investigating the unattended death of a 19-month-old child on Wednesday that reportedly occurred in an apartment on Ashworth Avenue. The cause of death is currently undetermined, according to Hobbs. However, in the process of investigating the incident, police were able to find charges against Witham and he was arrested.

Witham was held on $10,000 cash bail and is due in Seabrook District Court on Oct. 10.
