THE GOAL – For this year’s ANNIE’S ANGELS 2013 summer fundraising adventure, Bill DaGiau and Brian Cisneros will pedal their bicycles from Niagara Falls, NY to the 401 Tavern in Hampton, NH - that’s 550 miles in 7 days! The ride begins on August 18th at Niagara Falls, continues across New York and Vermont, ending with a celebration at the 401 Restaurant on Lafayette Rd. in Hampton. The public is invited to stop by to congratulate Bill and Brian on their amazing adventure, to bask in the glow of Desi’s hospitality at the 401, to eat, drink and be merry, to learn more about Annie’s Angels and the disease OMS, and to make a donation.
THE STORY - After a long, cold winter of sweating it out in the gym, after completing over 40 training rides, after traveling 1,000s of miles by bicycle, after training every muscle to perform and sustain while cruising long stretches of road on two wheels, Bill DaGiau, founder of Annie’s Angels (http://anniesangels.net) and local businessman, Brian Cisneros are ready for 2013 ANNIE’S ANGELS BIG ADVENTURE . (http://anniesangels.net/events/annies-angels-big-adventure/).
Bill DaGiau cycles great distances to raise money for the Angel Fund which helps families cope financially and emotionally with life threatening diseases by organizing fundraisers, making grants, and partnering with other organizations. But money doesn’t float in on angel wings so, in order to reach their goal of helping as many families as possible, the DaGiaus have always had to be go-big-or-go-home fundraisers and that’s how the idea for an annual bike adventure was created. He said the brainstorm was really a no-brainer - “One thing I can do very well is ride a bicycle. I don't ride fast but I can ride far...VERY FAR!”

Brian Cisneros will be riding for another very special cause – Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome, a rare immune disorder that attacks the central nervous system and affects 1 in 10 million children annually. His 10 year old daughter, Audrey, was diagnosed with OMS when she was 8 and has had to endure a year’s worth of 12-hour chemotherapy treatments, debilitating exhaustion, nausea ... the list of maladies and side effects is a long one.
“She did chemo and went through hell with it. She lost weeks from school,” said Brian.
“I carry her picture on my bike in full view to remind me who I’m doing this for. Audrey was never willing to quit. She never said to me ‘Daddy, I can’t do this’ ” So, when things get tough and the muscles cramps start I’ll just remember the hell she went through and ask myself, Why can’t I? Last year, the Annie’s Angels annual adventure in May was a 1700 mile bicycle journey from Daytona Beach, Florida to Exeter, NH. Bill rode with blisters through 100 degree-plus heat, coupled with drenching humidity, crazy drivers, and tropical storm Beryl - the strongest off-season Atlantic tropical cyclone on record. And bugs! Lots of bugs! And snakes! And gators!

But when any course gets difficult, he has a great plan to keep motivated. "I know every family that we help by name and by face, up close and personal. I will be thinking of all of them, through every mile. I will think about what they're going through and where my life is and that perspective will keep me pedaling! Always!”
