Back to School Festivities Start Today
Here's what you need to know about area schools' orientations, first days and special events, some of which start today.

School resumes next week for all local schools, although there are various start days and special events for incoming students of which local children and parents should be aware.
Here are some of those dates, categorized by school:

- Orientation for all grades is on Monday, Aug. 27, between the hours of 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
- The first day of school for kindergarten and first and second grades is Tuesday, Aug. 28.
- The kindergarten parent "Boo Hoo" Breakfast is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 3, because of Labor Day.
- The first day of preschool classes is on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
- The annual "Meet Your Teacher" event, which includes a Hampton Parent-Teacher Association ice cream social, is Friday, Aug. 24, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
- The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 27.
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 3, because of Labor Day.
- Sixth grade orientation is Thursday, Aug. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- The annual "Meet Your Teacher" event is from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24.
- The first day of school for all students kicks off at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, with the .
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 3, because of Labor Day.
- There is an open house at the school from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23.
- People Active in Learning is hosting a back-to-school picnic from 5:15 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23.
- The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 27.
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 3, because of Labor Day.
- First day of school for incoming freshmen starts at 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27.
- Freshmen transfer student orientation is in the lecture hall from 9 to 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 27.
- The first day for all other students is Tuesday, Aug. 28.
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 3, because of Labor Day.
- An ice cream social and parent partnership sign-up night on Thursday, Aug. 23.
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 24, or Monday, Aug. 27, because of professional development days.
- The first day for K-8 students is on Tuesday, Aug. 28, although the day does have an early release at noon.
- There is no school on Friday, Aug. 31, or Monday, Sept. 3, because of Labor Day.
- The first day for preschool students is Tuesday, Sept. 4.
- The private school's 50th Year Opening Mass is on Friday, Sept. 7.
- The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 27.
