Fatello: Playoff Losses, Gun Control and Winter
Blogger Ralph Fatello weighs in on some of the frustrations, issues and joy that has hit the area in recent weeks.
I guess I was really surprised at my reaction to last Sunday's
loss in the AFC Championship game. Truth is I was over it in an
amazingly short time. I mean I was over it. Oh don't get me wrong, I cursed and complained, and screamed at the TV. But by the next day? I was fine. I even thought to myself..."wow that wasn't so bad this time around..."
I have become immune to it all by now. The excitement of watching your favorite NFL team year after year, go deep into the play-offs, only to lose it in these crucial games, has finally made my skin so thick that nothing bothers me. Certainly losing
a big game like last week would be reason to be upset. But honestly, what can any of us do?
We're football fans. Not coaches. Not players. We're fans.
I realized that at the end of the day, the Patriots winning or losing has no bearing on my life. I am not going to get healthier
if the Patriots win. My family and friends will not succeed with good health and happiness if they win. Nor will they fail if they lose. It is after all, just a game. A game that some very talented athletes who get paid HUGE amounts of money to play this game every week.
That's it. It's just a game. However...
I love being a fan. And I will continue to be a fan because it is entertaining. I just won't invest all that emotion into something that I have very little control over. I used to be so jealous of my friends who hate any kind of organized sports. They had nothing invested in any of these games. They had no favorite team. No favorite player. Nothing. I used o be jealous of them.
But not anymore. I have accepted the fact that I am a fan. And I wouldn't change a thing. I enjoy watching the games with friends and family, and I will for the rest of my days. I just won't get down when they lose. I'll be upset, but not for long.
I'm good with the outcome of Patriots games.
One last thing... Wes Welker? Sign him. He is a true warrior. There is no one like him out there in the NFL. Nobody takes a hit like Welker. No one. Please Mr Kraft, sign this man. Sign this reliable Patriot because it is the right thing to do. And your customers (fans) love him. SIGN WELKER!
So this flat spell has been taxing for many of you out there. But this flat spell also has produced some amazing nature pics from some of the local photographers. The Sea smoke series that have been filtering in over the last couple of weeks have been amazing. And none more so than the master of them all...Brian Nevins. Brian has the keen eye and vision to capture the icy mini waves and sea smoke more than anyone else I know.
When he sent me pics this week I told him, "My winter is complete, I have my Nevin's sea smoke and mini ice wave pics." When you see the gallery you will see for yourself.
Sea smoke and Ice Waves...New England style.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:
So who cares if Beyonce lip synched to the national Anthem last week during the inauguration? Anyone? Because I don't. I mean good lord stop the presses! This is big news? Benghazi? Yes. Beyonce? No.

So the GUN CONTROL issue is gaining momentum. The administration has taken a stand to ban all semi automatic assault weapons. And weapons that carry 10 rounds or more in a clip. I don't know for sure what the answer is to saving lives out there. But I do know plenty of responsible gun owners out there. I'm talking both men and women.
And they just so happen to own semi automatic firearms. I certainly don't think of them as a threat to our society.
I do think that this battle will get ugly before we all reach a compromise. And for the record...NO ONE wants to see another Sandy Hook. No one. Not the NRA not the anti gun lobbyists. So using that as a selling point is a moot point. Sandy Hook was the result of a deranged individual who was hell bent on causing mayhem.
The same deranged person could of used a number of ways to commit mass murder. I mean good lord, once evil takes a hold, evil will find a way to commit these horrific crimes.
