Surfer 'Humbled' by Overwhelming Generosity

The benefit for Rick Sav was a great effort by a wonderful surf community. Never ceases to amaze me how wonderful people can be.

As if we all haven't had enough of old man winter. When the first day of Spring was just like the last day of winter you know it's been tough. Cold, snowy, and beautiful. I guess being an old local, I have come to appreciate the four seasons that we have here in Northern New England. Spring in New England can feel a lot like winter. But then again, it can equally feel like summer.

What's the old saying? March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb? Guess Mr March missed that memo.

The snow on the first day of Spring was actually very pretty. And being a visual person, I can certainly appreciate that. Plus all my friends who love snowboarding and skiing, were having some of the best conditions of the year this past week. And that alone is worth the extended winter conditions. Certainly the mountain resorts could use the money.

When you depend on nature to make a living, you are taking high risks. But when it all comes together? It's worth every stressful moment you experience when it's not working.

Or that's what I think. I could be wrong though.

Hey I'll tell you what I am not wrong about. The Benefit party for Rick Sav on Saturday night at the Legion in Hampton was great! I mean it was a great time. Rick and his wife Janet along with brother John and sister Barbara were totally and completely thankful and grateful for the overwhelming response from the community. Just a truly amazing turn out, and good vibes.

It was so much fun playing in the "Friends of Rick Sav Band". Joining me was Dave Cropper, Bill Trafidlo, Stave Magliano, and Matt Luneau on drums. Great food and simply amazing raffle items. Just a good vibe all night.

The Saturday benefit for Rick Sav was another great community effort by a wonderful surf community here on the seacoast. Never ceases to amaze me how wonderful people can be. And as I mentioned that night..."There are more people doing good things around here, than there are bad people doing bad things.

Keep in mind, if you didn't make it to the fundraiser, and you want to donate to Rick's cause, you can do so by mailing checks to Rick's sister Barbara. Just click on the poster in this blog to
see where and how.

Rick Sav wanted to mention...

"I would like to thank everyone for their generosity, and their spirit and aloha. They showed what they, and the community are made of. To everyone, from those who donated help, food, and prizes, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Rick Sav"

On behalf of the surf community. I want to thank you all for helping out. Rick's family and his friends are truly humbled by the love and support.

If you want to help it would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

After years of not going to Israel President Obama met with the Israeli prime minister and claimed that Israel is our strongest ally. Then Secretary of State John Kerry made a surprise visit to Afghanistan to meet with President Karzi on the US turning over the much controversial prison that the US had control of. It won't be long before we are rid of that god forsaken land once and for all.

Pope Francis is digging his new role as Pope, especially with this being Holy week and all. Nothing like starting off the new job on one of the biggest Catholic Holidays. That's called good timing.

Have any of you seen the video clip of the latest "Shark attack?" I mean it is ridiculous to hear some of the absurd commentary on this thing.
Just absurd. I heard that some people could not understand how this could happen. Really?

You put slabs of fresh killed beef in the water, throw in fish blood, and then you stick two idiots into a cage with a big opening for any kind of shark to get in, and you wonder how this could happen? Really?
