Hello Summer...

http://www.ralphspic.com

OK, can we talk about the weather last weekend? You know, the traditional Memorial Day weekend. The unofficial opening of Summer? Well, I don't know about you guys but, it felt felt more like the unofficial opening of Winter. Saturday felt like winter.

And Sunday felt like a brisk day of Fall.

Thank God Monday (Memorial Day) was beautiful. Perfect.

And then this weekend? You have got to be kidding me? It was almost 100 degrees yesterday. June 1st? Look, I don't know too much about, or put much stock into this whole Global Warming trend, but something is out of whack here.

And it's not just the warm days, it's also the equally cold days.

I was driving down Rte 1 in Portsmouth and looked at the temp gauge in my Commander, and was shocked to see it was 97 degrees. And this was late in the day too. Had to have been around 4PM. And it was close to 100? That's nuts.

But there it is for all to see. And no this is not some photoshop trickery. What would be the point? The photo above is legit. It is documentation of the truth in New England weather.

I guess we all have to deal with it. What else can we do?

Funny, on the drive earlier in the day to Portsmouth, we could not help but notice the many drivers texting on the highway.

The tell tale signs are usually someone going way too slow.

You know, the speed limit is 65mph, and the texter is going around 45mph. Let me tell you, that's dangerous. You can't be driving that slow on a major highway because, you will cause others to have to adapt to your slow speed, and thus, you will ultimately throw the flow of traffic out of sync. In other words, drive the speed limit and, STOP texting while you're driving.

I did think of an alternative solution. This is for those who can't stop texting while driving. And this may very well be the norm, for all future driving while texting addicts.

What if we had another lane on the major highways known as the TEXTING ONLY LANE? Just stop and think about that for a moment. The lane would have rubber guardrails on either side. Much like an amusement park "bumper car" ride. The drivers who text and drive, could now swerve and hit the rubber guard rails and not cause any damage to your vehicle.

Of course, the front end and back end of each vehicle would still be exposed to potential damage with the stopping and going of other drivers. Perhaps this TEXTING ONLY LANE would have some kind of warning sensor to alert the texting driver when he or she was getting too close to the vehicle in front of you.

There would be some bugs to work out, but the concept is in place. The TEXTING ONLY LANE would alleviate all the boneheads that the law abiding drivers have to deal with on a daily basis.

Those who want to drive, without the worry of having someone who's texting, go drifting into your lane, would now be at ease. And to those who want to continue to drive and text, would now not feel guilty when the rest of us honk, curse, give the finger to, and commit road rage when you mess up.

It's a win win situation. The best of both worlds.

And you heard it here first folks. TEXTING ONLY LANE.

There's a benefit at Hampton's Flatbread Company on June 18th, 2013 from 5PM to 9PM to help sponsor the local American Legion Post 35 and their Wounded Warriors projects like HIT THE BEACH. See poster below. Please help out this great cause.
